Sustainable Living: Say no to single use with a hand-painted tote bag!

Sustainable living is hard, and lets face it the idea of going completely zero waste free can seem absolutely impossible at times. The ethos behind Lowenna Designs is to create an eco conscious brand that is not only about the love for animals and our natural planet but also to promote ways on how we can save it. Therefore I thought it would be great to start a little segment on this blog about sustainable living. I am in no way an expert, I do what I can in my everyday life to reduce my waste and I keep trying to cut down on things I don’t need… so let’s go on a journey together and see how we can make a difference!

One of my favourite quotes is ‘No-one is too small to make a difference’ because I believe it’s so true. We as individuals can all make a difference, we don’t all need to do single use free perfectly. We can’t all cut back on our emissions. BUT we can all try to cut these areas where we can and sometimes trying really is enough.

So for this first post I thought we would dive into something we have all become so aware of, the demon that is single use plastic. I find it so hard when we just simply walk into the supermarket and see the excessive use of plastic wrapped around every item, which we just don’t need. We don’t need our veg wrapped in plastic for us to just take it out of it the second we get home. The plastic problem has become out of control and where you can I urge you to try and pick the veg that isn’t in plastic. I know its hard because it’s often more expensive but we need to start deciding what price are we going to put on saving our planet?

Here in New Zealand I believe the single use bag ban has helped in a lot of ways but still there are supermarkets that get away with handing out plastic bags by saying they are for more than one use. This in itself is ridiculous because we know people are not going to reuse them. SO… when you go to the shop remember your reusable bags or boxes or whatever it is you have to stop yourself from having to pick up anything else at the shop to bring your shopping home in. There are so many options out there now that we really don’t need to rely on plastic.

If you still haven’t got yourself a reusable shopper than why not check out these hand-painted tote bags. Each is one of a kind as they are all hand-painted and heat pressed so don’t worry they are practical and can be washed! Reusable shoppers of any kind are a simple solution to just one part of the plastic problem. No your reusable shopper and hand-painted tote bag isn’t going to solve the entire issue, but it’s a step right?

If you want a completely one of a kind hand-painted tote bag then just click here to see which ones are available in the Lowenna Designs shop or check out our Etsy.

Also please let me know in the comments the steps YOU are taking in your path to sustainable living, I’d love to hear any ideas or just your stories!
